I think most technology today perpetuates excessive attachment to material outcomes.
Every time something new comes out promising an improved quality of life, even if just for a brief moment we’re led to believe that our current lives aren’t good enough and have feelings of desire towards that new thing. And now once that new thing has been acquired, what makes it any less likely that that cycle will repeat itself when another new thing comes out?
I think it’s an incredibly unsustainable way of seeking happiness, and there isn’t a lot of technology that teaches us to be resistant to that cycle.
I like the idea of mental health technology because it’s a rare case where tech enables new, longer lasting sources of happiness - namely the ability to create our own intrinsic peace - which doesn’t depend on the acquisition of new products or outcomes.
